The Birthplace of Buffalo Wings: Anchor Bar in Buffalo, NY

(And Yes, They’re That Good)

Cuisine: American / Fast Food

During a recent trip through Buffalo, New York, I had the chance to stop at the legendary Anchor Bar, the birthplace of the original Buffalo wings.

The vibe inside Anchor Bar is everything you want it to be. Casual, a little bit retro, and buzzing with that perfect kind of energy that only comes from a place with real history behind it. You can tell immediately you’re somewhere special — a spot where a food phenomenon was born.

Of course, we had to try the classic Buffalo Wings. I’m not exaggerating when I say they were incredible. Perfectly crispy, tender inside, tossed in that signature tangy, buttery, spicy sauce. It’s wild how different and better they were compared to the many other spots. The flavor hits you immediately — bold but balanced — and you can just tell you’re tasting the original formula that changed bar food forever.

The Buffalo wings – crispy, tangy, buttery perfection at Anchor Bar.

We also ordered the Cheese & Bacon Potato Skins, they were out-of-this-world good. Crispy seasoned fries layered with melted cheese and crumbled bacon, with ranch for dipping. The richness and gooeyness were exactly what you crave when you’re in the mood for something decadent. Honestly, they were almost a show-stealer.

Cheese and Bacon Potato skins – cheesy, crispy, and totally addictive.

Anchor Bar is not just a restaurant; it’s a true piece of American food history. Whether you’re a wing enthusiast or just passing through western New York, it’s worth carving out time to stop by and experience the wings that started it all.
